Community Outreach & Training

As a service to the community, professionals from Fairfield County Protective Services are available to speak and present information to local organizations and community partners regarding child abuse and neglect. Presentations can be designed to fit a group's program needs and may include opportunities for activities and questions.

Speaking topics may include:
  • Overview of child abuse and neglect
  • Reporting child abuse
  • Screening guidelines
  • Referral process and expectations
  • Foster care and adoption
  • Volunteer and mentoring services

Mandated Reporters

Many professionals are required by law to report suspicions of child abuse and neglect.  We offer trainings to mandated reporters to meet their specific needs of that include:

  • Mandated reporter law
  • Screening guidelines and assessment tools
  • Referral process and expectations
  • Overview of child abuse and neglect

CPS Champions

The CPS Champions program is a valued collaboration between Fairfield County Protective Services and local school districts. It is designed to develop and strengthen the relationship between the systems who are charged with educating and protecting children. The CPS Champions program provides a liaison which allows educators a point of contact with Protective Services. The program addresses topic areas identified by Protective Services and also those requested by educators, to best meet the needs of staff and students. Information and trainings include an array of topics regarding Child Abuse and Neglect, Mandated Reporting, Protective Services practices surrounding referral and Screening Decision Making, Family Centered Practice, Trauma Informed Care, Independent Living Services for Teens, Intimate Partner Violence, and Community Resources. Protective Services is looking forward to expanding these collaboration efforts in Fairfield County.
